Air Engines built by Rowan Students
The pictures below show some of the designs built by Rowan students. As you can see, the designs are all quite a bit different than the 'faculty' model given on the previous webpage.

I Like to Run
This engine was built by Andrew Wilkinson, Zach Pennell, Mike Siracusa, Dan Collins and Jonathan Sewnig (who likes to run). It has a very clever rocking-beam design, much like the earliest steam engines which were used to pump water from mineshafts.

Stephen and the Ladies
The engine above was built by Stephen Boyle, Amanda Harasts and Bethany Brigandi. As you can see, they've included the power and valve cylinders in one main block. Also, Steve spent a few hours polishing the block, after which Amanda and Bethany spray-painted it black, and then etched away the excess paint with the laser-cutter to form the Rowan logo. Very clever!

Nuclear Horsepower
The Nuclear Horsepower team is composed of Dan Campbell, Jerald Wesley, Alex Van Nest, Chris Guns and Nick Laverick. This is a well-made, robust engine, with slots cut into the baseplate to permit adjustment of the positions of the power and valve cylinders.

Team Carparts
The Team Carparts engine was made by Darren Schenk, Dan Bailey, Chris Contrevo, Gary Haes and Zach Waegener. This was the winning engine, developing an impressive 1738rpm. Its linkage permits it to shift into reverse, and its admission and cutoff angles are adjustable 'on the fly'.

Bayou Beast
The photo above is the only picture I have of Bayou Beast, which was built by Mehrdad Bazazan, Robert Mulholland, Matt Reilly, Ben Remer and James Pleban. The Bayou Beast has a very large flywheel, which helps smooth out the torque pulses in the engine. If the team has any other photos of the engine, I'd be happy to display them!
